SOLTECH Spotlight: Marie Filbey, Interface Engineer
By SOLTECH
Introducing Marie, one of SOLTECH’s Interface Engineers! Marie graduated from The Iron Yard in April 2017 and she’s been with our team for nearly four months. Marie is a dog-lovin’ Mississippian, who’s in the beginning stages of planning her wedding.
Why did you choose to become an interface engineer?
At first, it was just the magic of getting something to appear on the screen. The more I learned about the role of a software engineer and specifically front end web development, I knew it was the right fit for me. I love being a part of what the user sees and interacts.
What did you say you were going to be when you grew up?
A dog walker! I wanted every kind of dog and still do. All the dogs!! I do get to walk my two dogs every day though. Abbey, 9, is a collie/German Shepard mix, and Wilbur, 4, is a border collie mix.
Do you have a favorite app?
HUGE fan of the AllTrails app. I first got this app while I was living in Raleigh, NC, and here in Atlanta, it is just as awesome! You can check out pictures of the different trails, read reviews, check to see if dogs are allowed on/off leash, kid friendly, difficulty level, distance, etc. Just a great tool to have to go out and explore!
What do you like to do in your free time?
My fiancé and I love taking our pups out hiking and camping. We love the Chattahoochee trails here in Atlanta, and most recently, we loaded up the dogs and drove to camp right outside of Charleston, SC. Beautiful city.
If you could be any fictional character, who would you be and why?
I feel like my gut is yelling Hermione from the Harry Potter series because as a young girl, her character was so empowering to read and still is. She was smart, strong-willed, and brave. However, I recently read this weird version of Pride and Prejudice where the Bennett sisters are expert zombie killers. So I’m going to have to say, Elizabeth Bennett – zombie slayer – final answer.
What is your go-to music to listen to while you’re working?
Umphrey’s McGee. They are one of my favorite bands to see live, and it keeps me in a great mood!
Name something on your bucket list.
Learning how to surf! In my head, I’m a pro.
What drew you to SOLTECH?
I wanted to be a part of real solutions and work with a company that had its hand in different industries. Also, SOLTECH really wanted to help me grow as a new developer professionally and provide the best tools for me to learn. The encouragement and support from the whole SOLTECH office from the recruiters, all the way up to Veanne and Tim, have been the best.
Tacos or pizza?
How could I even chose?! Ahh….. tacos!
